Design at the heart of innovative processes.
The department strives to carry out the mission of design as an interface discipline at the heart of innovative processes and further bolster it.
Design research and the High Tech Agenda
Drawing on the values of the Munich University of Applied Sciences – practicality, interdisciplinarity and transfer thinking – the field of design research is being continuously expanded. And for good reason: This field will serve as a linchpin of the social, environmental and technological transformation.
The Department of Design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences is the first department of design in Bavaria to be awarded two internal innovation professorships as part of the High Tech Agenda. These two professors actively explore current issues involving design research and innovative instructional methods – a key aspect of department and university development.
Doctoral programme and research institutions
In collaboration with other Bavarian design departments, efforts are being made to create a doctoral programme in design.
At the design cultures institute for applied design research (dci) of the Department of Design, the HTA professors for design and innovation cultures and systemic design work together with other researchers. The professorships for »technical innovations and ergonomics« and »vehicle design and presentation techniques« conduct their research at the interdisciplinary Forschungsinstitut für Mensch und Mobilität (IMM, "Research Institute for People and Mobility") at the Munich University of Applied Sciences.
