Application BA Design

The bachelor’s degree programme may be begun only during the winter semester of an academic year. The application period is each year in May.

Acceptance criteria

  • The initial requirement for acceptance to the bachelor’s degree programmes at the Munich University of Applied Sciences is university entrance qualification recognised by the state of Bavaria.

Application process

Students must complete the following steps before they will be accepted to the bachelor’s degree programmes at the Department of Design:

  • Submission of application via the application portalapplication portal of the Munich University of Applied Sciences during the application period: Input data, upload documents and transmit the application!
  • Registration and submission of digital work samples (portfolio) to the Department of Design during the application period: After registering, students can use theupload tool NINE to submit their work samples here. Changes to the submissions may be made during the entire application period.
  • Passing of an entrance exam (qualified applicants will be invited to take the test based on an evaluation of their portfolios)

Important information about the application process

  • Please keep the following information in mind: To become a valid participant in the process, students must submit their applications via the general portal of the Munich University of Applied Sciences, register online and submit their portfolio to the Department of Design!
  • Please register at an early stage and plan enough time for your work to be uploaded. This will prevent a bottleneck from developing at the end of the application period. The parallel streaming of more than 800 applications has the potential to overload the beta-phase server whose performance is not scalable. In addition, it may take up to an hour to upload approximately 35 examples of work. For this reason, we urge you to upload images several days before the application period ends.
  • You will not find any send button when you upload your work onto the internal department server (in contrast to the inter-university registration system Primuss)! You simply have to upload your work.
  • If the application cannot be submitted online for understandable reasons, an explanation of the reasons must be submitted with the application documents before the application period ends and credibly elucidated.

Portfolio

Your work samples (portfolio) will be used as part of your application to 1 of the following 3 core fields: photo design, industrial design or communication design. Your portfolio must receive a positive assessment before you will be asked to take the entrance exam.

Work samples in photo design

  • A max. of 25 work samples plus 5 photos that show the analogue portfolio (no digital mockups)
  • Optional: 5 photos from sketch pads
  • Format: .png, .jpg, .gif (including animated gifs)
  • File size: max. 50 MB


Work samples in industrial design

  • A max. of 35 work samples (e.g. 25 works, 10 photos from sketch pads)
  • Format: .png, .jpg, .gif (including animated gifs)
  • File size: max. 50 MB

  • A max. of 35 work samples (e.g. 25 works, 10 photos from sketch pads)
  • Format: .png, .jpg, .gif (including animated gifs)
  • File size: max. 50 MB

Entrance exam

Following a review of the portfolios, qualified students will be asked to take an entrance exam in which they can demonstrate their artistic talent for one of the three core fields. The exam will be taken at the Department of Design.

Academic advisers

Regular meetings with academic advisers provide students with information about core fields in the bachelor’s degree programme in design and the bachelor’s degree programme in computer science and design. Students can also learn more about the degree programmes during semi-annual student information and university orientation days (dates are announced on the home page under “News ”). We do not offer any portfolio assistance.
