Application for the MA in Applied Design Research
The master’s degree programme begins in mid-March each year at the start of the summer semester. The application period always runs from 15 November to 15 January.
Acceptance criteria
The requirements for admission to the master’s degree programme are:
- Documentation of completion of a design-related degree programme (bachelor’s degree or the German degree known as “Diplom”) with a grade of “good” or better, i.e. a grade point average of at least 2.5)
- Documentation of participation in a degree programme with 210 ECTS points that included a minimum of 6 theoretical semesters of study and one practical semester (or a practicum that lasted at least 18 weeks)
- If you have finished a degree programme with a minimum of 180 ECTS points, but have not yet completed a practice-based semester, you can make up this requirement during the first year of the degree programme.
- For international applicants, documentation of German-language knowledge as demonstrated by level 2 of the German language examination for university entrance (DSH) or level 3 of the test of German as a foreign language (TestDaF)
- Successful completion of the admission process (application via the application portal of the Munich University of Applied Sciences, submission of digital work samples via NINE, application interview)
Application process
Students must complete the following steps before they will be accepted to the master’s[A1] degree programme at the Department of Design:
- Submission of application via the application portal of the Munich University of Applied Sciences during the application period: Input data, upload documents and transmit the application!
- Registration and submission of digital work samples (portfolio) to the Department of Design during the application period: After registering, students can use the upload tool NINE to submit their work samples here. Changes to the submissions may be made during the entire application period.
- Successful completion of the application interview
Portfolio
You will use your portfolio to apply for the master’s degree programme in applied design research. Your portfolio must receive a positive assessment before you will be invited to an application interview.
Application interview
The (digital) application interview is conducted by the MA examination commission (consisting of 3 professors). You will be informed by email in advance about the time and date of the examination and the detailed structure of the test.
