Design Futuring: Participatory Design of Future Scenarios in the Context of the Transport Transition
Career historyAfter completing her degree in Communication Design at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, Melanie Settele went on to complete a master's degree programme in Advanced Design at Hochschule München. In her Master’s thesis, ‘Munich 2084’, she explored futures literacy in depth and examined how citizens can be actively involved in shaping possible future scenarios.
Since December 2024, Melanie Settele has been a research assistant at the Designkulturen Institute for Applied Design Research (dci) at the Hochschule München. As part of the WiPa research project – Effective Participation for Mobility Innovations, which is funded under the MCube programme (Munich Cluster for the Future of Mobility in Metropolitan Regions) – she is investigating how participatory engagement formats can strengthen societal acceptance of mobility innovations and encourage active involvement. Her focus is on developing and testing methods for opinion-forming and futures literacy, with a view to supporting citizens in their engagement with future scenarios in the context of the transport transition.
