Career history

Prof. Dr. Sue Barr has been Professor of Photography in the subject area of Design at Hochschule München since spring 2023. Her teaching focuses on architectural photography, the fundamentals of photography and image composition.

Both in her artistic practice and in her teaching, she is interested in documenting space through photography, with a particular focus on the visual language of photographic composition. She completed her PhD at the Royal College of Art in London, where she drew on 18th-century aesthetic theory to identify examples of the sublime in motorway architecture between the Alps and Naples. Most recently, she was Head of the Photography Department at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.

Her latest project, ‘Monsters: Fragments of Stuttgart Brutalism’, which documents forgotten icons of Brutalist architecture in and around Stuttgart, will be exhibited in London in autumn 2023 as part of the London Design Festival.
