Career historyDominikus Baur studied Media Informatics at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and was awarded his PhD there in 2011, specialising in the visualisation of personal data. Following a stint as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Calgary in Canada, he returned to Munich. Since 2013, he has been working there as a freelancer in the field of data visualisation (https://do.minik.us) for clients such as Google, the OECD and the World Bank.
His work focuses on data visualisation on the web and optimisation for mobile devices. His work has been recognised with second place in the CeBIT Innovation Award and various Information Is Beautiful Awards. At the same time, he has pursued a career as an artist in the field of generative art, with several group and solo exhibitions.
After organising various events whilst pursuing his PhD at LMU Munich, he taught data visualisation at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in 2015. In a corporate context, he has held workshops and seminars on topics such as mobile design and web-based data visualisation. In 2025, he was appointed Professor of ‘Generative Design and Creative AI’ at Hochschule München. His research focuses on the design of data and information, generative systems, and the influence of artificial intelligence on design in both teaching and practice.
