Field of Teaching: »Photography and Identity«
Based on a critical examination of the documentary aspect of photography, the course “Photography and Identity” focuses on questions regarding the negotiation of identity, objectivity, and universalism, as well as the creative deconstruction of the supposedly objective camera gaze. Drawing on intersectional discourses, the course analyzes historical and contemporary photographic and film works, explores identity-critical, queer-feminist, and decolonial visual strategies, and fosters the development of independent, experimental approaches. The goal is to actively renegotiate social narratives through images, to challenge established visual orders, and to embrace pluralistic, dialogic forms of knowledge.
